180th meridian
The real traveler must not only discover a new territory but to find himself in its the most important, symbolic and extra place. And if you get to Chukotka, your next goal must be the very place on its map – the crosspoint of Arctic Circle and the 180th meridian.
First you’ll walk under the symbolic arch of Polar Circle on the road Egvekinot – Iul’tin. And soon you’ll get to the red post and see the signs “the South Pole is 17408 km”, “Moscow is 9558”. So here you are on the crossroad of two important Earth lines! You should decide where to go to next.
According with the international agreement the new day begins in 180th meridian. It crosses the land twice on Chukotka and Fiji Islands only. Not to get mixed with the calendars the international date line lies in the ocean between the Ratmanov Island and the Little Diomid.
But it changes nothing for you – you are on the time edge! Feel it!
