Birds

There are more than two hundred species of birds in Chukotka. But you can’t realize their real number until you see the bird flocks in a wild nature. Sometimes the flocks of white geese close the sky when they fly for nesting to Wrangel Island.

The birds of tundra and coast shock everybody by their quantity, naturalness and own world. It makes you calm when you watch them during hours.

Only in Chukotka one can understand people who organize their journey for bird-watching. The birds are different in size, color, and behavior and polyphonic.

Near the bird rookeries you are like a guest from a different world. It’s their home and every specie is in its very place. The traveler just needs to stop the boat and look at the life of a bird megapolice with hundred of thousands inhabitants.

Tufted and horned puffins fly up from the sea surface like planes. Black guillemots, whickered auklets and common murre follow them. There are cormorants, glaucous gulls and fulmars on the rocks sitting like spectaculars in the theater.
